It was around 5 pm that afternoon. I don't know why I was recruited late to the warzone, as I'd been queued since around 730 that morning. It was 6v6 now that I was there.
At the time of my arrival, the Pubs had just broken through the first door. By the time I jumped down, they were already planting on the second. Alarms were going off in the distance. This doesn't look good! We've got to hold the third!
The nice thing about the third set of doors is that you can fight in the middle of the room, and keep an eye on both of them. That final battle was the stuff of legends. Hold! The! Line! Republic spent half the match attempting to break through that last set of doors, and ran out of time. We can still win this! Woot woot go team hooray!
Round 2 began, with us as the attackers. It didn't take us long to break through that first set. I like running under the bridge, and strafing one direction. Once I'm out of line of sight, I change direction and head to the opposite door. Some people just don't catch on to that, and wonder where I went. By the time 3 of them figured it out, I had the bomb planted and counting down. Come to think of it, perhaps that was what clued them in to come check that side. Alarms are pretty handy things, you know.
The doors blew open, and both sides were free to advance. I did my favorite cheese routine of fighting a suicide tunnel battle, spamming my AoE snare every few cooldowns just to slow their advance. All three of them stuck around, not even attempting to progress through the tunnel. 3v1 is an easy win! I hadn't yet properly introduced myself to these guys. It was as good a time as any.
I kept them there for about 25 seconds. Not a huge amount of time, but that was 25 seconds they weren't fighting at the second door. When they finally downed me, and I respawned in the adjacent room, lo and behold, the gate was open! I ran through and jumped down to the floor just as the 3 Pubs I'd been fighting only seconds before emerged from the tunnel. Their prior victory over me had gained them an advancement of about 20 feet.
I engaged them a second time. Predictably, they all stopped dead in their tracks to take part in another 3v1 gankfest. 25 more seconds down. We were fast approaching an entire MINUTE in the second room, with half their team still not past the first one. Needless to say, we were blasting the doors by the time I was defeated.
Upon my respawn in the third room, I couldn't help but notice that EVERYONE was fighting at the north door. Not a single guy, good or bad, was at the west one! So I ran up and started capping it. 25%! 50%! I wipe the sweat from my brow, which looks ridiculous seeing as I have a helmet on. I'm almost there!
Oh crap, here comes Allanon! Rounding the corner about 15 feet away from me, and running right at me! He's gonna Force Charge, or Vicious Throw, or Force Scream, or hell just run up and Assault. He'll be standing right on top of me long before I finish capping. This could be it, the game will end in a draw, and a random winner will be decided.
How DOES the game determine a draw in Voidstar? I wondered to myself, as we were about to have one. But wait! Sardus was right behind Allanon! He hit him with a flamethrower! And then, the most amazing thing happened:
Allanon stopped charging at me, turned completely around, and engaged Sardus.
Allanon stopped charging at me, turned completely around, and engaged Sardus.
That was all the time I needed. The door blew open, and Imperial forces seized control of the Voidstar. We didn't even need to make it to the core, since we'd already progressed farther than the Republic had during their turn on attack.
Any hope of a draw game, and possible victory, was lost, as Allanon threw it away to attack Sardus. And to what end? The only conclusion I can reach is because Sardus was closer.
Closer target = 1 less second spent running to target 10 feet away, = more D to the PS. Was he 2k away from a medal? Was there any way for him to know that?
